Somebody recently asked on Quora: “what is your advice to an aspiring freelancer?” I offered my opinion as to why I think gut instincts are a bit like our own built-in ML models: they get better with time as they accrue more underlying data from our experience. I also go through some of the common orange and red flags I have encountered during five years of freelance writing. And explain why, over time, I have come to understand that strong gut instinct should be trusted unless you are on the fence or there is a compelling reason to seek a second opinion.
